Our Toys for Tots History

Toys for Tots in Loudoun County, 2004-2023

For nearly 20 years, Detachment 1205 ran Loudoun County's Marine Toys for Tots campaign as the county's Local Coordinator Organization. Every year it took a warehouse, hundreds of community volunteers, the county's fire stations and many local businesses to collect, sort and deliver toys to thousands of children.

In 2024 our longtime coordinators retired, and Loudoun's campaign moved to Quantico Toys for Tots. Our members now support Quantico with collection boxes, pickups and volunteers.

Campaign Highlights

• 2013: 40,000 sq ft of warehouse space donated. Partnered with ABC7/WJLA and NewsChannel 8. About 300 collection sites and about 313 volunteers. Collected 26,000+ toys, 900 books and 4,400 stocking stuffers. About 1,948 children served.

• 2014: Kicked off at the Leesburg Halloween Parade. 243 volunteers processed 27,831 toys and 138 bicycles.

• 2015: More than 23,000 toys distributed. Merritt Properties donated warehouse space. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation named the Detachment its Region 2 Local Coordinator Organization of the Year, chosen after audits of all 782 sites in the 2015 campaign.

• 2016: 27,589 toys collected and 29,271 distributed. 271 businesses and organizations collected toys, with 337 volunteers.

• 2017: 26,832 toys collected and 31,095 distributed to 6,709 children. 300+ volunteers.

• 2018: 24,519 toys collected and 28,109 distributed to 6,834 children. 304+ volunteers.

• 2020-2021: For safety during the pandemic, the campaign raised money and bought toys instead of running a warehouse. Toys went through five partner nonprofits (Community Empowerment of Northern Virginia, Help for Others, LINK, Mobile Hope and The Salvation Army).

• 2022: The 75th anniversary of Toys for Tots. Warehouse space from CyrusOne, five partner nonprofits and 200+ volunteers.

• 2023: More than 25,000 toys for almost 7,000 children. Boxes at 150+ businesses, with fire stations as the main drop-off sites. CyrusOne warehouse and close to 300 volunteers.

Thank You

Our campaigns depended on the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System, warehouse partners CyrusOne, Merritt Properties, Capital Mechanical, Interstate Moving & Storage and United Rentals, many local sponsors and businesses, and the hundreds of volunteers who came back year after year.
